Global losses on financial assets are now estimated at more than $2 trillion. David Marks, chairman of FIG capital markets at JP Morgan says the scale of the problem puts it firmly in the political arena. Shyam Parekh, head of FIG capital markets for Europe at Morgan Stanley, says some banking sectors outside the US and Western Europe are also now starting to recapitalise.
